I am headed to Texas this Friday with my wife. We are flying there to meet my seventh grandson, Beau, for the first time. He was born on November 17, 2023. We will be flying back on Monday the 29th of January. I will not be posting much if at all during that time frame.

There is no other greater feeling than holding a newborn baby.

(I edited this and changed the color. WTF with the white. I don't remember that happening before.)

LMAO, Mike, the first post isn't blank.  The text is white.  Hilite it!

Enjoy your time in Texas!  Will you be flying into Houston, or Dallas?  Last November I was in the Houston AND Dallas airports while on my 16-day vacation.  And by the way, while I was there, one of my great-nieces had a baby, my very first great-great-offspring, a boy. Must have been about a week before yours was born.  I hope your new hips don't bother you while flying.

Joe, I am flying into DFW, the Dallas Ft. Worth airport. My doctor said it is okay to fly but I should stand up every hour and walk around a bit if I can. At the minimum, I am supposed to stand up. We always fly first class so leg room won't be a problem. I should be able to at least stand up and stretch. I have never been in the Houston airport. I have been to DFW numerous times since my son lives there and my work's sister office is in Carrollton Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I have had to travel to our sister office from time to time to help out on various projects. In fact, I am the only Software Test Engineer in Pittsburgh. We only have 14 people in my office here. Our sister office in Carrollton has around 100 people. Even though we are a small office we will always be here since the big boss of our division lives here.

Mike: What languages does your company use, what kind of businesses are your customers in, and what kind of programs do they want? Also do you use Macs, PC, or other?

Why can't  sister co email the software for your expertise, or ship a thumb drive? Actually you could work a computer there from your own office. A scrambled telephone link could provide a certain amount of security. I wouldn't trust internet for your kind of business.

I had to read it over recently since my last game was 5 yr ago.

I could post it if you like, but there are examples on the web.

Dave, We use C++ for our main program that monitors all access and video with over 200 cameras - regular and thermal, at nuclear plants. We were trying to use Python for automatic testing when we release new versions of our software. Our systems NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER touch the internet. We record 24/7, 365 days a year. The main goal of our software is to provide early warning for any intrusion so that the armed officers can stop force on force entry. We have microwave zones on fences, Iris scanners for plant entry. You might have my card to get into the plant but you don't have the same iris as me therefore you will be denied access and alarms will be sounded. We use Dell servers and workstation PCs. Our system has huge video walls with, depending on the customer, at least 20 or so very large, very high resolution monitors, that are displaying video constantly. We use for cyber protection, firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) devices. We run WhatsUpGold and NESSUS on all of our systems. Our systems include Active Directory Servers, Hosts for our software, Qoginify for video, etc. Our systems our extremely complex and take about 9 months to a year to configure and test depending on the size of the system. I have only touched on a bit of our software and systems but I think you get the idea. My main job is to test the systems, generally I run about 400 documented tests on the systems. I then point out to our cyber, hardware, and software personnel what is wrong. Oh... we also use Mercury control panels for access.

We thought about using Python to try to automate our testing but that might be put on the back burner now. If you read my previous post it will make sense that you cannot automate someone's iris properties for access.

I will try Python soon I am still reading my book right now. I just started it and need to find the time.

On another note. Texas was great since I got to see my son and his family. Last time I saw them was March of 2023 when he got married. Now there is another addition Beau, who was born in November. I got to hold him too.

LOL@Joe, The games are a distraction from the, let's call it intense, testing I do. Even right now I am writing up a document that is a report of a system I tested. I am up to about 150 pages. By the time I am done scanning all of the results this document will be around 1000 pages or so. The first 150 is my synopsis on how the testing went.

I am finishing up now. I had most of it written in parts beforehand. Therefore, a lot it was copy paste.

Mike: What IDE do you use for C++?

Dave,

At my current job I don't write the code. Our developers write and edit the code. I have no idea what IDE they use. When I wrote code for my Cyber classes in C++ I just used notepad++. Most of my recent coding for those classes was using Assembly language.

If you want I can check with our developers and see what they use.

Basically, I test our software with complex test cases looking for problems.

OK, I thought you checked the code for errors, Mike, but it's the code results you check.

I use Notepad++ for html, css, and javascript.

I like IDEs because they find the errors in the code, but NP++ doesn't.

I use free Geany for Python.

I use freebasic in Qbasic mode to write utilities to make games, since  it can make EXEs in a few seconds.

I  can pump out HTML code with it, as per Old Maid, with a random placement for her.

Javascript will not write external files or I would use it more.

C++ is too tedious for mundane utilities that don't need ultra security built in.

Also, the IDE I have for that is some antique from the 90s.

I have written in Assembler, but not in 386. Also there are code cracking tutorials out there that check the contents of DLLs and reverse the calling jumps to get a crack. Try OllyDBG with Random's tuts.
